Friday night, our family celebrated Passover at the Moadim Fellowship building with about 45 people. It was a great night and a great celebration! We celebrated a week early because the person who led the seder would be gone on the day of Passover. Since Easter's date is determined by the solstice and Passover's date is determined by the lunar cycles, the two are sometimes celebrated in different months of the year. This year is a leap year in the Hebraic Calendar and so instead of an extra day (like the Gregorian calendar), there is an extra month! The month of Adar this year was instead changed to Adar I and Adar II. The month of Nisan began the 5th of April, so Passover is celebrated on the evening of the full moon in the month of Nisan. Anyway...many people want to "lump" Easter and Passover into the same holiday, when indeed they are very different. The seder is a service (usually with a meal) that explains the story of redemption throughout the Scriptures. Those of us that are "Messianic", also tell (besides the telling of the first Passover when the children of Israel were led out of Egypt through the mighty power of Elohim) the story of Yeshua (Jesus), our Redeemer and His role in becoming the Passover Lamb. It is from this Passover seder that the Lord's Supper ceremony of today is taken. If you have not had the opportunity to enjoy a Passover seder, I would highly recommend it -- it will give you amazing joy to experience this piece of history (His-Story).
